چکیده

Two-phase M/Ek/1 queueing system with N -policy for exhaustive batch service with gating, and server startups and breakdowns is studied in this paper. The customers arrive individually according to a Poisson process and waiting customers receive batch service all at a time in the first phase and are served individually in the second phase. The server is turned off each time the system empties, as and when the queue length reaches or exceeds 3262 V. Vasanta Kumar, B.V.S.N. Hari Prasad, K. Chandan and K.P.R.Rao N (threshold) batch service starts. Before the batch service, the system requires a random startup time for pre-service. As soon as the startup period is over the server starts the batch service followed by individual service to all customers in the batch. It is assumed that the server may breakdown during individual service according to a Poisson process and the repair times has an exponential distribution. Explicit expressions for the steady state distribution of the number of customers in the system are obtained and also derived the expected system length. The total expected cost function is developed to determine the optimal threshold of N at a minimum cost. Numerical experiment is performed to validate the analytical results. The sensitivity analysis has been carried out to examine the effect of different parameters.

Optimal control of an N - policy two - phase M X / M / 1 queueing system with server startup subject to the server breakdowns and delayed repair

In most queueing systems the server may be subjected to lengthy and unpredictable breakdowns while serving a customer. For instance, in manufacturing systems the machine may breakdown due to malfunction or job related problems; in computer systems, the machine may be subject to scheduled backups and predicted failures. In these systems, server breakdown results in a period of server unavailabil...

A two-phase unreliable M/Ek/1 queueing system with server startup, N-policy, delayed repair and state dependent arrival rates

We study a M/Ek/1 queueing model where the service is provided in two phases one by one in secession. The server operates N-policy. Customer’s arrival rate depends on the state of the server. The service mechanism breakdowns occur only during active service and repair process may not take place immediately due to non-availability of the repair facility. We derive the steady state solutions by u...

Optimal Strategy Analysis of an N-policy Two- phase M/M/1 Gated Queueing System with Server Startup and Breakdowns

This paper deals with the optimal operation of a single removable and unreliable server in an Npolicy two-phase M/M/1 queueing system with gating, server startups and unpredictable breakdowns. Arrivals occur in batches according to a compound Poisson process and waiting customers receive batch service all at a time in the first phase and proceed to the second phase to receive individual service...
